“It’s like when you’re in 4th grade and you make those Valentine’s Day bags that you tape to the back of your chair. You go around and give everyone a Valentine and a piece of candy. Except you give that girl you have a crush on one extra piece of candy. You make sure those hearts you drew are filled in neatly and that she knows it’s from you.
And that’s the heartache for me. I am already happy. I have people to share it with. I am not looking for someone to make me happy, but it would be nice to have that someone to give an extra piece of candy to every once in a while.
I think all the Anti-Valentine’s Day sentiments stem from the fact that people have a skewed view on happiness. Don’t be so anxious to find someone because you think it will make you happy. It won’t. If you’re bitter, cynical and negative, you will only attract other types like you because no truly happy person wants to be dragged in the mud.
You can create an amazingly successful and happy life on your own. Just like with getting into shape, there is no magic pill (person). You have to get up, eat right and get your ass moving. The trick is to find someone that can and wants to keep up with you.”
